Take the Raumabanen the entire distance from Åndalsnes to Dombås, and back. Enjoy the 100-kilometer long train ride through fantastic scenery. At Dombås you have time to look around, before the train journey takes you back to Åndalsnes. If you like train trips, this is a trip you should definitely take.
There are several places where you can get off the train, and then set off on fantastic mountain walks. If you board the train at Åndalsnes and get off at Bjorli, the first part of the journey goes through a beautiful valley with dramatic mountains and waterfalls. At Bjorli, the landscape changes. Here you are greeted by an open landscape and high mountain terrain. If you choose to jump off the train at Bjorli, you have more than two hours to spend here. If you want to spend more time at Bjorli, you can choose another train departure on another day.
The experience can be combined with a train ride on the Dovrebanen, between Oslo and Trondheim. If you are already in Møre og Romsdal, you can choose to take a short train ride from Åndalsnes to Bjorli. This is a fantastic journey from sea to mountain in just one hour. The 114 kilometer long railway from Dombås to Åndalsnes takes you through a varied and contrasting landscape. On the way you can experience Lake Lesjaskogsvatnet, which is one of the very few lakes in the world with a river on each side.
You will find everything from steep mountains that drop vertically into the valley and majestic pointed mountain peaks, to beautiful lush hillsides that meet large, round plateaus. Further inland you will find untouched national parks with large wild tribes. In several places along the Rauma Railway, there are great hiking opportunities in the mountains, both in summer, autumn and winter.
