Take the trip up to one of Norway's most talked about man, Mannen. This is a mountain tour that is worth experiencing. The trip takes place in magical high mountain scenery, right up to the edge of Romsdalen.
There is a steady climb in beautiful mountain terrain on the way to the top of Mannen. The last part of the trip is steep. At the top of the mountain stands the characteristic stone which is easily seen from the valley floor. Some think it looks like a duck, others think the silhouette also resembles a man. That is why the mountain has been nicknamed Mannen. The man is the Z-shaped stone block on the edge of the mountain. The mountain edge further up Romsdalen is called Børa.
The starting point of the tour is approx. 800 meters from Trollstigen, at the end of Alnesvatnet. Cross the bridge at the car park and then follow the sign for Mannen. The trip starts approx. 800 meters above sea level. After 7.3 km through magnificent mountain scenery, you stand 1,249 meters above sea level and have a fantastic view down towards Romsdalen and the majestic mountains.
On the way to Mannen, you pass several mountain lakes. If you're lucky, you can experience small eddies on the surface of the mountain waters. The eddy currents are located near the last ascent towards Mannen and Børa.
The hike up to Mannen can also be done in winter. A great ski trip in fine mountain terrain from Trollstigen. The walk is on flat terrain, but the last part up to the top has a short and steep climb. At the top you have a fantastic view down towards Romsdalen and beyond the mountain landscape.
